Augmented Reality And The Dawn Of A New Era In UX (User Experience)
- William Hurley
Abstract:
Augmented user interfaces are finally becoming a reality. In doing so they are ushering in a new era in user experience. The software and hardware developments that will happen in the next 5 years will dramatically effect user interface and experience more than any other development in the past 20 years. In this talk will look at Augmented Reality's past, present, and future with a focus on the new demands that will be placed on engineers developing software and hardware for this new user experience.
Speaker Bio:
Hurley (known in technology circles as "whurley") is the founder of whurleyvision, an augmented reality research and development studio based in Austin, Texas. Prior to founding whurleyvision whurley was
Chief Architect of Open Source Strategy at BMC Software, Inc. where he oversaw BMC’s participation in free and open source software communities and maintained relationships with the over 15,000 developers and 150 partners in their open-source development ecosystem. A recognized technology innovator, whurley has received numerous honors and awards including IBM’s Master Inventor title, an Apple Design Award, and 11 patents. In addition to this he was named one of the "Top Leaders in Open-Source Business" by LinuxWorld Magazine in 2008, and IT Executive of the Year for his community leadership by the Association of IT Professionals (AITP) in 2009. He is a charismatic public speaker and frequent interviewee who has appeared in numerous magazines and online publications including, BusinessWeek, Wired, The Christian Science Monitor, The Science Channel, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The O'Reilly Network, CBS News, NBC News. He has been profiled in ComputerWorld and WebPublisher magazine, and is a regular contributor to BusinessWeek. Called a “visionary systems theorist” by ComputerWorld magazine, whurley’s systems theories have been featured in everything from Kevin Mitnick’s book “The Art of Intrusion” to the United Nations 2005 UNCTAD Information Economy Report. In his personal life, whurley believes that the whole is much, much greater than the sum of its parts, and spends what little free time he has promoting and shepherding vibrant, active, user-focused development communities. This has lead him to found several unconference events including ArCamp, BarCampApache, iPhoneDevCamp, preDevCamp, and BarCampAustin; which is now in it’s 5th year.
